Yesterday, I got some honest feedback about looking for freelance work on Upwork.
- Upwork is saturated.
- Some listings are fake.
- Good jobs can receive 30 proposals in 30 minutes.
That does not deter me, though. I spend half an hour a day on this. If I eventually land one solid client, the effort will have been worth it.
The next step is building a better system that reduces the time I spend searching for projects and applying to them.
I cannot build that system in theory. It will come from practice: learning which listings are worth pursuing, recognizing bad fits earlier, and making each application more focused.
Today, I applied for a frontend project using React and TypeScript.
I am starting with no Upwork experience and $0 earned, so I am focusing on stronger cover letters and the projects I have already built.
For now, I will keep showing up and improving one application at a time.
